Kodomo No Hi
(Children's Day)
This is a koi nobori (carp windsock). These are flown for Kodomo no Hi (Children's Day) in Japan. Kodomo no Hi is on May fifth and is part of a string of holidays called Golden Week. (April 29th is Greenery Day, May 3rd is Constitution Day, and May 4th is a national holiday). |
Many people with children fly koi nobori from poles on their houses. |
Rivers and lakes often will have strings of various carp streamers flown across them. |
