Lesson 14: It's red.
This lesson is about adjectives. There are two types of adjectives in Japanese. These are い adjectives and な adjectives. い adjectives have an extra い at the end which can be used to modify their form. な adjectives usually do not have the い ending and must be followed by な if they come in front of a noun. な adjectives have a different way of being modified. It is also possible to make adjectives out of other nouns as in English. This lesson will introduce the い adjective. |
|
Examples of い adjectives: ふるい |
old |
Notice that all the adjectives above end in い. い adjectives can be used like adjectives in English. They come before the noun they modify. |
|
Examples: ふるいくるま |
old car |
I adjectives can also be used in the 'X です' and 'Xは Y です' patterns. Recall that ほんです。means It's a book. and わたしは ジョンです。 means I am John. Similarly, you can use the following pattern with i adjectives: adjective です :=: it's adjective |
